The adaptor prints a step marker per phase. It emits exactly five of them – 1, 2-6, 7, 8 and 9 – and 2-6 is one combined phase, not six. The pattern therefore has to accept a range: it used to stop at the first digit group, so Step 2-6: never matched and the progress line stayed on “distilling” for the sweep, which is most of the job.
